GIMP Image Editor

I use the GIMP Image Editor to edit my images be they photos, printscreens, downloads etc. It is more powerful than one can image and for something that is free, this is fantastic! However, I always forget some of the key function so this is ONE of my reminders:
  1. Under Menu Bar/Edit/Preference, it is good to customise the Toolbox and Tool Options;
  2. Click on the left box to change the FOREGROUND colour on the canvas;
  3. Click on the right block to change the BACKGROUND colour of the canvas;
  4. Double-click on that box to activate the palette;
  5. Double-click on the pencil to activate tool option e.g. changing hardness to 100, size to 2 etc;
  6. Tick SMOOTH STROKE to make stroke more natural;
  7. To create a colour box, use Toolbox/Rectangular Select tool: Create outline/Move to appropriate location/Rightclick mouse on rectangle/Edit/Fill with FG colour (but first, set the preferred colour for the FG colour)
  8. To create a box, use Toolbox/Rectangular Select tool: Create outline/Move to appropriate location/Rightclick mouse on rectangle/Edit/Stroke Selction/Select/Sharpen/Click outside box
  9. The closest to creating a definitely straight line is to make a thin horizontal box
