Solution for back aches!

Sometime ago, Lela bought me this cute hot water bag because I was suffering from serious backache (sakit urat belikat) thanks to an old accident of falling down the step-up ladder, however, I never made use of it because I preferred cream ointment as it is more convenient. The sprain lately came back and it has been with me daily for 2-3 months, getting worse as days go by. 2 days ago I used up my cream and since we recently rented this hot/cold water dispenser, I decided to give it a try. I like it full of water because it feels like a fat kitten and it is easy to adjust to the right spot when sitting on a sofa as usually that spot is hard to reach and if that spot was deeper, all I need to do is exert my body against the sofa. The only thing I don't like is that it is stingy if left at one spot so I move my body now and then. In that sense, the felt jacket greatly helps to buffer the heat because I still remember when I was a kid, the rubber of a naked hot water bag is real stingy without some protective cloth. I am amazed that the effect has been very positive even using it for just one night. I remembered my doctor did recommend this a long, long, long time ago but I did not take any notice now having tried it, I seriously recommend it to anyone with backaches or places where the muscles are tight/sore. I find it appears to be an excellent aid for shoulder aches when I slouch and put it sideways using it like a neck rest.

UPDATE: After 2 continuous days of using it, no more sakit urat belikat. Wow!

My migration from Android smartphones to the iPhone 5S

My favourite apps

Respectable but quality beaten by current mid range smartphones

Point and shoot quality under energy saving lighting

Being a pro-Open Source enthusiast, I always stuck to Android smartphones but due to my budget were always the mid-range bracket. Still, I was quite happy with them and didn't expect a mid-range smartphone to compete with the likes of the upper range smartphones. However, things took a change when I lost my latest smartphone: an 5.5" ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser while riding my motorcycle with a pair of baggy trousers and did not push the smartphone all the way in. That smartphone was only 6 months old so I was very sad. While considering what I to buy as a replacement, I would borrow my daughter's iPhone 5S and get a feel of it. At first, it was difficult to get the hang of the iOS but after realizing how it was structured, things became easier. I was always impressed by a few things about the iPhone:
  • Keyboard entry was more precise and I rarely mistype eventhough I typed fast and eventhough the keyboard is slightly smaller against that of my 5" and 5.5" smartphones;
  • The colour of the images off the screen were noticeably richer;
  • The results from the camera was way better in all respect notably under low lighting situations;
  • It feels solid and oozes quality;
  • Its got a brand image so I can lift my nose up higher.
Yes, the iPhone 5S is a different price bracket that my mid-range smartphones  just could not compete. As I had just pensioned, what I wanted now was a reliable smartphone and one I would not need upgrade. The iPhone 5S is slightly smaller than what I like: a 5" smartphone but a small compromise for the (+) it offers. It so happened about that time, the replacement to the iPhone 5S was going to be launch so wholesalers were giving very attractive offers for the 5S, still more expensive than the best mid-range smartphone yet a grab if one could afford it and I could, furthermore, I had no intention to buy a smartphone in the range of the normal price of a iPhone 5S. Yes, there will always be better smartphones to come and one should not be trapped into constantly upgrading one's smartphone unless it cannot ADEQUATELY deliver what one wants out of a smartphone.

I do not use the smartphone to play games nor listen to music. For my personal requirement, my smartphone should deliver well as a typical phone, send sms quickly, scroll and navigate Goggle maps quickly, upload pictures and view  Facebook reasonable fast. In this respect, the iPhone 5S is good enough but had it been a 5" smartphone, that would be almost perfect. 'Almost' because it uses battery power quite fast where recent Android smartphones are better here. I bought mine in space grey which I think is cool and overall, I am a satisfied customer.

Excerpts from the Hadith Sahih Al-Bukhari

My current hobby is reading the Hadith Sahih Al-Bukhari, one of two holy Islamic references. Excerpts will be recorded here mainly for my personal reference as well as for sharing purposes. This page will be dynamically updated from time to time when I find something interesting:

What happens if it's raining or too cold to go to the mosque for prayer?

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 590 : Narrated by 'Abdullah bin Al-Harith
Once on a rainy muddy day, Ibn 'Abbas delivered a sermon in our presence and when the Mu'adhdhin pronounced the Adhan and said, "Haiya ala-s-sala(t) (come for the prayer)" Ibn 'Abbas ordered him to say 'Pray at your homes.' The people began to look at each other (surprisingly). Ibn 'Abbas said. "It was done by one who was much better than I (i.e. the Prophet or his Mu'adhdhin), and it is a license.'

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 605 : Narrated by Nafi

Once in a cold night, Ibn 'Umar pronounced the Adhan for the prayer at ,Dajnan (the name of a mountain) and then said, "Pray at your homes", and informed us that Allah's Apostle used to tell the Mu'adhdin to pronounce Adhan and say, "Pray at your homes" at the end of the Adhan on a rainy or a very cold night during the journey."

Why does one feels lazy to wake up in the morning?

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 243 Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "Satan puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every knot he reads and exhales the following words, 'The night is long, so stay asleep.' When one wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; and when one performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot is undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart."

Why does one have a tendency to sleep until morning?

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 245 Narrated 'Abdullah:
A person was mentioned before the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and he was told that he had kept on sleeping till morning and had not got up for the prayer. The Prophet said, "Satan urinated in his ears."

Why is solat Tahajud superduper important?

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 246 Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) said, "Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: "Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?"

Why one should sit down if tired and wants to pray?

Volume 2, Book 21, Number 251r Narrated Anas bin Malik
Once the Prophet (p.b.u.h) entered the Mosque and saw a rope hanging in between its two pillars. He said, "What is this rope?" The people said, "This rope is for Zainab who, when she feels tired, holds it (to keep standing for the prayer.)" The Prophet said, "Don't use it. Remove the rope. You should pray as long as you feel active, and when you get tired, sit down."

Why one should offer a 2 rakat prayer when he enters a mosque?
Volume 2, Book 21, Number 264 Narrated Abu Qatada bin Rabi Al-Ansari;
The Prophet said, "If anyone of you enters a Mosque, he should not sit until he has offered a two-Rakat prayer."

When is the Day of Judgement?

Volume 2, Book 26, Number 663 Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:
The Prophet said "The people will continue performing the Hajj and 'Umra to the Ka'ba even after the appearance of Gog and Magog."

Narrated Shu'ba extra:
The Hour (Day of Judgment) will not be established till the Hajj (to the Ka'ba) is abandoned.

Is travelling good?

Volume 3, Book 27, Number 31 Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "Traveling is a kind of torture as it prevents one from eating, drinking and sleeping properly. So, when one's needs are fulfilled, one should return quickly to one's family."

Only at the night of fasting....Alhamduillah

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 139 Narrated Al-Bara:
It was the custom among the companions of Muhammad that if any of them was fasting and the food was presented (for breaking his fast), but he slept before eating, he would not eat that night and the following day till sunset. Qais bin Sirma-al-Ansari was fasting and came to his wife at the time of Iftar (breaking one's fast) and asked her whether she had anything to eat. She replied, "No, but I would go and bring some for you." He used to do hard work during the day, so he was overwhelmed by sleep and slept. When his wife came and saw him, she said, "Disappointment for you." When it was midday on the following day, he fainted and the Prophet was informed about the whole matter and the following verses were revealed: "You are permitted To go to your wives (for sexual relation) At the night of fasting." So, they were overjoyed by it. And then Allah also revealed: "And eat and drink Until the white thread Of dawn appears to you Distinct from the black thread (of the night)." (2.187)

How is the best way to fast?

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 197 Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr:
Allah's Apostle was informed that I had taken an oath to fast daily and to pray (every night) all the night throughout my life (so Allah's Apostle came to me and asked whether it was correct): I replied, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you! I said so." The Prophet said, "You can not do that. So, fast for few days and give it up for few days, r ray and sleep. Fast three days a month as the reward of good
deeds is multiplied ten times and that will be equal to one year of fasting." I replied, "I can do better than that." The Prophet said to me, "Fast one day and give up fasting for a day and that is the fasting of Prophet David and that is the best fasting." I said, "I have the power to fast better (more) than that." The Prophet said, "There is no better fasting than that.

What to do with wives?

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:223
Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth for yourselves.

When is the Night of Qadr?

Volume 3, Book 32, Number 234 Narrated 'Aisha:
Allah's Apostle said, "Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan."

When Allah loves a person, that person gets all the attention

4.431 Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying, 'Allah loves so and−so; O Gabriel! Love him.' Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. 'Allah loves so−and−so, therefore you should love him also,' and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth."

What was there at the beginning of creation?

4.414 Narrated `Imran bin Husain:

I went to the Prophet and tied my she−camel at the gate. The people of Bani Tamim came to the Prophet who said "O Bani Tamim! Accept the good tidings." They said twice, 'You have given us the good tidings, now give us something" Then some Yemenites came to him and he said, "Accept the good tidings, O people of Yemem, for Bani Tamim refused them." They said, "We accept it, O Allah's Apostle! We have come to ask you about this matter (i.e. the start of creations)." He said, "First of all, there was nothing but Allah, and (then He created His Throne). His throne was over the water, and He wrote everything in the Book (in the Heaven) and created the Heavens and the Earth."

How the quantum of 5 prayers/day came about?

4.429 Narrated Malik bin Sasaa:

The Prophet said, "While I was at the House in a state midway between sleep and wakefulness, (an angel recognized me) as the man lying between two men. A golden tray full of wisdom and belief was brought to me and my body was cut open from the throat to the lower part of the `Abdomen and then my `Abdomen was washed with Zamzam water and(my heart was) filled with wisdom and belief. Al−Buraq, a white animal, smaller than a mule and bigger than a donkey was brought to me and I set out with Gabriel. When I reached the nearest heaven. Gabriel said to the heaven gate−keeper, 'Open the gate.' The gatekeeper asked, 'Who is it?' He said, 'Gabriel.' The gate−keeper,' Who is accompanying you?' Gabriel said, 'Muhammad.' The gate−keeper said, 'Has he been called?' Gabriel said, 'Yes.' Then it was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' Then I met Adam and greeted him and he said, 'You are welcomed O son and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the second heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was said, 'Who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' He said, 'Yes.' It was said, 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!" Then I met Jesus and Yahya (John) who said, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet.' Then we ascended to the third heaven. It was asked, 'Who is it?' Gabriel said, 'Gabriel.' It was asked, 'Who is with you? Gabriel said, Muhammad.' It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?' 'Yes,' said Gabriel. 'He is welcomed. What a wonderful visit his is!' (The Prophet added:). There I met Joseph and greeted him, and he replied, 'You are welcomed, O brother and a Prophet!' Then we ascended to the 4th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met Idris and greeted him. He said, 'You are welcomed O brother and Prophet.' Then we ascended to the 5th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in previous heavens. there I met and greeted Aaron who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and a Prophet". Then we ascended to the 6th heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Moses who said, 'You are welcomed O brother and. a Prophet.' When I proceeded on, he started weeping and on being asked why he was weeping, he said, 'O Lord! Followers of this youth who was sent after me will enter Paradise in greater number than my followers.' Then we ascended to the seventh heaven and again the same questions and answers were exchanged as in the previous heavens. There I met and greeted Abraham who said,'You are welcomed o son and a Prophet.' Then I was shown Al−Bait−al−Ma'mur (i.e. Allah's House). I asked Gabriel about it and he said, This is Al Bait−ul−Ma'mur where 70,000 angels perform prayers daily and when they leave they never return to it (but always a fresh batch comes into it daily).' Then I was shown Sidrat−ul−Muntaha (i.e. a tree in the seventh heaven) and I saw its Nabk fruits which resembled the clay jugs of Hajr (i.e. a town in Arabia), and its leaves were like the ears of elephants, and four rivers originated at its root, two of them were apparent and two were hidden. I asked Gabriel about those rivers and he said, 'The two hidden rivers are in Paradise, and the apparent ones are the Nile and the Euphrates.' Then fifty prayers were enjoined on me. I descended till I met Moses who asked me, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Fifty prayers have been enjoined on me.' He said, 'I know the people better than you, because I had the hardest experience to bring Bani Israel to obedience. Your followers cannot put up with such obligation. So, return to your Lord and request Him (to reduce the number of prayers.' I returned and requested Allah (for reduction) and He made it forty. I returned and (met Moses) and had a similar discussion, and then returned again to Allah for reduction and He made it thirty, then twenty, then ten, and then I came to Moses who repeated the same advice. Ultimately Allah reduced it to five. When I came to Moses again, he said, 'What have you done?' I said, 'Allah has made it five only.' He repeated the same advice but I said that I surrendered (to Allah's Final Order)'" Allah's Apostle was addressed by Allah, "I have decreed My Obligation and have reduced the burden on My slaves, and I shall reward a single good deed as if it were ten good deeds."

Why a person resembles that person's father or mother?

4.546 Narrated Anas:

When `Abdullah bin Salam heard the arrival of the Prophet at Medina, he came to him and said, "I am going to ask you about three things which nobody knows except a prophet: What is the first portent of the Hour? What will be the first meal taken by the people of Paradise? Why does a child resemble its father, and why does it resemble its maternal uncle" Allah's Apostle said, "Gabriel has just now told me of their answers." `Abdullah said, "He (i.e. Gabriel), from amongst all the angels, is the enemy of the Jews." Allah's Apostle said, "The first portent of the Hour will be a fire that will bring together the people from the east to the west; the first meal of the people of Paradise will be Extra−lobe (caudate lobe) of fish−liver. As for the resemblance of the child to its parents: If a man has sexual intercourse with his wife and gets discharge first, the child will resemble the father, and if the woman gets discharge first, the child will resemble her."

How will people look in Paradise?

Volume 4, Book 55, Number 543 Narrated Abu Huraira:

The Prophet said, "Allah created Adam, making him 60 cubits tall. When He created him, He said to him, "Go and greet that group of angels, and listen to their reply, for it will be your greeting (salutation) and the greeting (salutations of your offspring." So, Adam said (to the angels), As-Salamu Alaikum (i.e. Peace be upon you). The angels said, "As-salamu Alaika wa Rahmatu-l-lahi" (i.e. Peace and Allah's Mercy be upon you). Thus the angels added to Adam's salutation the expression, 'Wa Rahmatu-l-lahi,' Any person who will enter Paradise will resemble Adam (in appearance and figure). People have been decreasing in stature since Adam's creation.

Why one must really treat women nicely?

Volume 4, Book 55, Number 548 Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah 's Apostle said, "Treat women nicely, for a women is created from a rib, and the most curved portion of the rib is its upper portion, so, if you should try to straighten it, it will break, but if you leave it as it is, it will remain crooked. So treat women nicely."

How is the best way to block Iblis from entering and disturbing your sleep?

8.331 Narrated `Aisha:

Whenever Allah's Apostle went to bed, he used to blow on his hands while reciting the Mu'auwidhat ( i.e. Suratal−Falaq 113 and Surat−an−Nas 114) and then pass his hands over his body.

When is the fastest way for our doa to ascend to heavan?

It is during the time when Allah comes down instead to receive them, hence the beauty of solat tahajud

8.333 Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Apostle said, "When it is the last third of the night, our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, descends every night to the heaven of the world and says, 'Is there anyone who invokes Me (demand anything from Me), that I may respond to his invocation; Is there anyone who asks Me for something that I may give (it to) him; Is there anyone who asks My forgiveness that I may forgive him?' "

What is a person fated with? 4 things a person is fated with and which make him/her what he/she is (hence why some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, why some people are hardcore chain-smokers yet live a long life, why some do good yet still face a hard life, etc. etc.):

8.593 Narrated `Abdullah:

Allah's Apostle, the truthful and truly−inspired, said, "Each one of you collected in the womb of his mother for forty days, and then turns into a clot for an equal period (of forty days) and turns into a piece of flesh for a similar period (of forty days) and then Allah sends an angel and orders him to write four things, i.e., his provision, his age, and whether he will be of the wretched or the blessed (in the Hereafter). Then the soul is breathed into him. And by Allah, a person among you (or a man) may do deeds of the people of the Fire till there is only a cubit or an arm−breadth distance between him and the Fire, but then that writing (which Allah has ordered the angel to write) precedes, and he does the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters it; and a man may do the deeds of the people of Paradise till there is only a cubit or two between him and Paradise, and then that writing precedes and he does the deeds of the people of the Fire and enters it."

Bad dreams? Then spit at the Devil who hangs onto your left side ...

Volume 9, Book 87, Number 9.115 Narrated Abu Qatada:

The Prophet said, "A good dream that comes true is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan, so if anyone of you sees a bad dream, he should seek refuge with Allah from Satan and should spit on the left, for the bad dream will not harm him."

Volume 2, Book 23, Number 441 Narrated by Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) but his parents convert him to Judaism, Christianity or Magainism, as an animal delivers a perfect baby animal. Do you find it mutilated?" Then Abu Huraira recited the holy verses: "The pure Allah's Islamic nature (true faith of Islam) (i.e. worshipping none but Allah) with which He has created human beings. No change let there be in the religion of Allah (i.e. joining none in worship with Allah). That is the straight religion (Islam) but most of men know, not." (30.30)

Excerpts from the Al-Quran

Why a good thing can be bad for you, vice versa?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:216 Sahih International
Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.

Why it is not good to marry poltheistic people?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:221 Sahih International
And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you. Those invite [you] to the Fire, but Allah invites to Paradise and to forgiveness, by His permission. And He makes clear His verses to the people that perhaps they may remember.

How you want is up to you, with exception of what is explicitly forbidden?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:223 Sahih International
Your wives are a place of sowing of seed for you, so come to your place of cultivation however you wish and put forth [righteousness] for yourselves. And fear Allah and know that you will meet Him. And give good tidings to the believers.

What is the precautionary period before a divorce?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:226 Sahih International
For those who swear not to have sexual relations with their wives is a waiting time of four months, but if they return [to normal relations] - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

If what Allah hates most is divorce, is it permissible?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:227 Sahih International
And if they decide on divorce - then indeed, Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

Can a government agency impose a person to choose a religion not of that person's choice?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:256 Sahih International
There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.

Does spending of your wealth get His blessing?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:261 Sahih International
The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

What is better than charity?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:263 Sahih International
Kind speech and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury. And Allah is Free of need and Forbearing.

What is Satan's plan of strategy?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:268 Sahih International
Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and bounty. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

Who get's His wisdom?
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:269 Sahih International
He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding.

Give in private is best
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:271 Sahih International
If you disclose your charitable expenditures, they are good; but if you conceal them and give them to the poor, it is better for you, and He will remove from you some of your misdeeds [thereby]. And Allah , with what you do, is [fully] Acquainted.

What Allah thinks of interest
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:276 Sahih International
Allah destroys interest and gives increase for charities. And Allah does not like every sinning disbeliever.

You did it to yourself
Surah Al-Baraqah 2:286 Sahih International
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."

How and why you are who you are?
Surah Al-Imran 3:6 Sahih International
It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

What is the religion of Allah?
Surah Al-Imran 3:19 Sahih International
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account.

Surah Al-Imran 3:59 Sahih International
Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was.

Surah Al-Imran 3:137 Sahih International
Similar situations [as yours] have passed on before you, so proceed throughout the earth and observe how was the end of those who denied.

Surah Al-Imran 3:140 Sahih International
If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allah may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allah does not like the wrongdoers

Surah Al-Imran 3:142 Sahih International
Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?

Your death is decided divinely
Surah Al-Imran 3:145 Sahih International
And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful.

Surah Al-Imran 3:165 Sahih International
Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uhud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves." Indeed, Allah is over all things competent

You are constantly being tested
Surah Al-Imran 3:187 Sahih International
You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination.

Surah Al-Imran 3:200 Sahih International
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.

Surah An-Nisa 4:3 Sahih International
And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four. But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].

Surah An-Nisa 4:4 Sahih International
And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.

Do not give away your property to the 'weak minded'
Surah An-Nisa 4:5 Sahih International
And do not give the weak-minded your property, which Allah has made a means of sustenance for you, but provide for them with it and clothe them and speak to them words of appropriate kindness.

How to distribute property?

Surah Al-Imran 4:11 Sahih International
Allah instructs you concerning your children: for the male, what is equal to the share of two females. But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of one's estate. And if there is only one, for her is half. And for one's parents, to each one of them is a sixth of his estate if he left children. But if he had no children and the parents [alone] inherit from him, then for his mother is one third. And if he had brothers [or sisters], for his mother is a sixth, after any bequest he [may have] made or debt. Your parents or your children - you know not which of them are nearest to you in benefit. The power of dua

It is not often that an article has caught my attention and mesmerized me in deep thought. The power of dua is one of them. The explanation there is simple and clear for any layman to read and understand void of Islamic theology. As a Muslim who believes in the concept of pre-destiny, it is most comforting to know that which one was pre-destined with yet but one does not like is not permanent. It can be changed by the will and upon Allah's acceptance of a humble and sincere dua. Many Muslims, probably in Malaysia, by way of traditional Islamic education, are also mindset that dua are fixed set of verse for this and that and if one does not say it accordingly, it is taboo. It is simply, like the article states, a medium of conversation between oneself and the All Mighty Allah and a matter of the heart which only He knows best. However, because one does not know what the future can bring, some happenings that befell us that we do not like, may still not change and occur eventhough a dua was made against that happening. This was because it was meant to avert something more serious and haphazard to us and Allah in his wisdom only gives us the best for us. In my lifetime, I have encountered this and looking back as I live my life now in the future, I more or less understand, what sadness would befall me had my dua to prevent certain happening come true.
